Hubble started out as a lawyer, but hated the job. It was then when he decided to become an astronomer. He began working at the Mt. Wilson Observatory in California, USA in the 1920s. There he studied nebulae and the universe. At that time, scientists believed that the Milky Way Galaxy was the entire universe.

Herschel was born in Germany, but moved to England when he was 21. However, he was not interested in astronomy until his middle ages. His younger sister, Caroline, also was an astronomer, who discovered several comets and nebulae.
