Titanium is named after the Latin mythological word Titans, which means the first sons of earth. It was discovered in 1791, and named in 1795. Titanium was found on the moon, asteroids, and our sun. It is ninth most abundant in the earth’s crust and is present in the ashes of coal.Pure titanium is a white metal. It can easily resist corrosion and is very strong. Natural titanium consists of five isotopes. It is as strong as steel, but better because it is about half steel’s weight. However, aluminum weighs less than it, but titanium is much more strong. People produce the metal artificially for gemstones. The price for 99% pure titanium is about $100 per pound, and the metal is relatively soft.
