Argon gas is used to fill lightbulbs and was discovered in 1894. It is 2 1/2 times more soluble in water as nitrogen and the only time argon occurs naturally in nature is when there is a mixture of three isotopes. Argon is used to fill glow tubes and other florescent or glowing man-made items. It can be used as a gas shield for arc welding and as a blanket for the production of elements that are reactive and can be even used, because it can form the correct atmosphere, to grow silicon crystals. Our atmosphere contains about 0.9% argon.
